Een paar opmerkelijke posts van het Engelse BM3W forum. Of mischien wel niet zo opmerkelijk. Sluit toch een beetje aan op het gedachte goed van mij wat ik heb losgelaten over de nieuwe M3 in dit draadje.
Money Back time.

If they are asking for Spec's on Tuesday then I'll be asking for my deposit back. This is a huge shame for me, I've had my name down for over 3 years, that's so long that my garage has been bought out twice and moved locations once. In that time I've followed every bit of info on the net and in the press and looked forward to the day we are at right now. I've bought many new Beemers before, including M's; they were always expensive but looked stunning and were great value for what they were.
But this has all changed IMO.
Firstly the design. The present 3-series does nothing at all for me, the coupe doesn't make it much better. Unlike the 5 that just looks better and better over time and the Z4 that was a totally off the wall stunning design, the 3 series remains very bland. The M3 I had hoped would transform into a fire-breathing monster, but instead it looks like a 3-series that (to quote Clarkson) has driven through Halfords and everything stuck to it. There are nice bits, it will look better in person, but it's just not cohessive and many people here (on an M fansite) also agree.
Then the price.
£55,000 for a reasonably spec'd model is too high in my book. At over £50k it's now in a different class to where it was before and I believe BMW are making a big mistake if they are aiming to sell anywhere near as many as the last M3. I won't be the only person asking for my depsosit back - that's for certain. If I had unlimited cash then I'd buy one in White with Red leather just for kicks; but unfortunately I haven't. I have to make choices and (see design) this doesn't press enough buttons for me to hand over £55k+ of hard earned.
And then Gordon will shaft us for £400 a year just for laughs too. That stings on a whole new level but that's a whole new conversation.
Then just for final insult the first owners can't even choose SMG either. Something that a year on everyone will want and something that I'm very much used to in my present car.
Perhaps in a few years the M3 will become another performance bargain on the 2nd hand market the same way that the present one is today, but for me I'd rather put £35k into a nice CSL right now than £55k into this new car. And that's before we start on the Audi RS4 (that's now cheaper), M5, M6, M Roadsters (for 25k less !!!), M Coupe (again £20k+ less), Porsches, etc, etc. There's just so much choice at £55k.
Good luck to everyone piling the cash down, I can't wait to see it on the road and have a nosey around / test-drive, but from the pictures and the spec's it's a "no" for now.

I have to agree that at ca. £55k, it feels outside of my psychological barrier of (sensible) affordability (for a 3 series). Perhaps more accurately, it feels outside of an argument that I could explain to my other half about affordability!
It's not so much the up-front cost, but that the depreciation would make my heart bleed when it comes to trading in.

I came to the same decision last night. I'm 95% certain I won't be taking mine now (the other 5% being the fact that I've been waiting 4 years), especially as I'd have to go manual. £55k can buy you a whole heap of 2nd hand greatness. While I loved the look of the concept car, the 'real' pics (and that 'red' video) just aren't ticking the boxes, which at £55k is just not on...

BMW have now positioned the M3 at the RS4 level and 335i at the S4 level where the M3 was previously positioned, therefore they have priced accordingly.
The problem l have is that going on past BMW cars i've owned, and the current depreciation of the M6/Z4M for example, l would only consider this car second hand now, even then i'd only consider keeping it two years given BMW's new warrenty prices/excess.
I'm sure it will be a cracking car though and having seen the 335 coupe, should be even nicer to look at, but BMW have made the price of the 3-series too high now.
If l was thinking of buying new, l would consider a 2nd hand 911 2S instead.

A 55k specced up 3 series (even tho M3) is too much IMO. I made my decision not to own the new M3 when I saw the concept pictures & the new coupe. For 55k you might as well add a little more cash & go one step up. Plenty of other desirable cars out there that were 80K 'new' only 12 months. Hence my decision to go 997 C2S..........
