Zoiets?
Two laps in, it becomes clear that BMW has done a fine job of disguising the GT's weight, but the car can only manage the inevitable effects of inertia for so long an, sure enough, the tyres quickly overheat, the brakes complain and the car just squiggle expansive, expensive black lines at every opportunity. This is a real worry, because sustained lapping is surely the very reason for this car's existence. On grounds of sympathy and not wanting to look like a wally, I don't go banzai on lap three. So what do we know about the GTS from this brief encounter? That it's a significant improvement over the base car, but that it weighs too much. For me, it's lacking some cosmetic appeal too. And we have no idea what it's like on the road (don't get me started on the conspiracy theories again...). What I can tell you for sure is that it cannot justify a six-figure price tag. I've deliberately avoided mentioning a certain rear-engined machine from Stuttgart for fear of sounding like a scratched record, but the comparison is a painful one for the GTS. The unavoidable truth is it's heavier, slower, more cumbersome and more expensive than either a 911 GT3 or GT3 RS. In isolation, it's a very good car, but it's way, way too expensive. You'd laugh at a 50k Renault Megane 250, why should you take a 110k M3 seriously? BMW should build 100 and sell them for 70k . Then the car would be a stunner. You'l really have to detest 911s to buy this over a GT3 or an RS. On reflection, I can understand why they kept the CSL hidden.
