Description
This is the Vauxhall Calibra 4x4 Turbo as raced by John Moon in the Castle Combe Saloons series back in the 1990s and featured in CCC Feb 2003 issue
The car has never been road registered, the bodyshell started out as a Vauxhall rally car development project before being built into the car you see today
The engine is the Vauxhall 2.0 twincam turbo engine, this was built by Anderson Racing Engines of Timsbury at a cost of over £6000 approx 10 years ago, but has done just 100 miles since. The engine comprises forged pistons and steel rods with a special inlet manifild made by Dave Bishop, then working for BAR (F1 team)
Has been run up to 450bhp, but was mapped back to 300bhp for increased reliability, the Vauxhall crowd regulary run 400bhp these days in their road cars so this should be easy enough now
The gearbox is 6 speed Calibra 4x4 with front diff specially built by rallycross specialist Martin Tinker who also did the switchable two or four wheel drive transfer box
Suspension is by Leda, brakes by Willwood, and comes with 2 sets of wheels (8x17 and 7x17). Some spares included (transfer box, springs, doors)
The car is ready to race bar the out of date 6 point harness (perfectly fine for track day use), comes with Sparco Rev seat, plumbed in fire extinguisher. Also comes with new set of Polycarb windows (not fitted)
Car is eligible for a number of series including Euro Saloons, QMN, NW Saloons, possibly even Deutsche Classics (as an Opel). I bought this car 6 years ago with the intention of using as my back up car, but expenses incurred on the main car and then changes of plans precluded that ever happening. I had the car recommissioned at the end of 2012 and added a purpose made Allisport radiator to ensure cooling would be optimum
Having never been used on the road, plainly there is no rust but as a 20 year old race car, neither is the body "concours-straight". You'll not find anything quicker for the money, I have priced this realistically to sell
Part exchange
Maybe!
dus met history...met dikke dure motor (lijkt me) en een carros zo goed als geen roest
