Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arınç said that TRT is absolutly right in its decision to not to compete in 2013 edition of Eurovision Song Contest.
Arınç added, “Evaluation criteria did not change. Whichever strong group, band or singer represents Turkey, the result stays same: we can’t get the rating we deserve. Hence, it does not contribute much in Turkey’s promotion activities. After a detailed assessment, TRT has decided not to compete in 2013 edition of Eurovision Song Contest”.
Turkish Radio and Television, TRT, grounded its decision on the shortcomings of rating method used in Eurovision, and defended that influence of televoting in the combined 50%/50% telephone/jury voting system has been reduced and also cited an "unfairness" which emerged by straight-to-the-final competitors Germany, France, England, Spain and Italy: "privileged" partners of the European Broadcasting Union, or EBU.
TRT underlined that Turkey's representatives in Eurovision Song Contest had gained better results between 2003 and 2010 when televoting had a higher share in the overall voting.
Turkey was the winner of the Eurovision 2003 for the first time in its history of the contest with Sertab Erener's "Everyway That I Can".
