Superleague Formula

Bericht door Roman » 03 apr 2007, 15:36

What is SF?

Launching in 2008, Superleague Formula (SF) will be a brand new, global Championship that connects two of the most popular sports in the world: football and motor racing.

At their heart, both sports offer fans action and drama; that is their engine, their attraction. By combining the two, we hope to create a unique blend of entertainment, passion, fair play and exhilaration – the beautiful race
However, a sport is nothing without its fans… and that’s why we want you to get involved.

We don’t just want you to watch, we want you to take part. In fact, we want you to tell us what you think (good and bad), so that we can create a new sport that has the full backing of the clubs, and the joint support of motor racing and football fans.

Football Clubs

Superleague Formula will see 20 cars compete against one another in Year One – each one proudly wearing the colours of a major European or global football club.

While none of the participating clubs will be required to contribute financially to the Championship, they will all be ‘in it to win it’, giving Superleague Formula their full support and backing.

To get the ball rolling, we are proud to announce that the first clubs to pledge their commitment to participate in Superleague Formula are AC Milan, PSV Eindhoven, FC Porto and Olympiacos.
Over the next 12 months, we will reveal which other clubs will be taking part… but who would you like to see?

Race Teams / Drivers

In a bid to highlight young talent, the racing drivers who will compete in Superleague Formula will be selected from an exclusive crop of new, up-and-coming future stars, all of whom are set to gain considerable experience in a very competitive championship.

They will be supported by top racing professional teams with plenty of experience across many car-racing Championships, and – of course – the club they represent.

How does it work?

While the driving force behind Superleague Formula will be the competition between the top clubs – eternal rivals, all together for the first time – our level playing field will help to create an exciting spectacle and a thrilling contest.

Having gained the official approval of the Federation lnternationale de l’Automobile (FIA) – the controlling body for international motorsport – Superleague Formula will see one car represent each football club, with all teams using identical cars and technologies.
As such, the emphasis will be firmly placed on each driver’s contribution, skill and ability – a showcase of man and technology that takes motor racing back to its essence.

Race Format

Superleague Formula’s simple race format will incorporate a Saturday qualification and two Sunday races – the main focal points in a packed programme.
For each round, the clubs will do battle for a weekend purse of more than 1 million euros in prize money, and points will be awarded (and prize money allocated) on a scale from first to last (1-20).
Each race team / football club will accumulate points, and the Superleague Formula Champions will be the Team with most points at the end of the season.

Saturday: Free testing and qualifying
Sunday: Two races (one with reverse grids)
One-hour race format
Simple and practical regulations in place to enhance the contest
One million Euros prize money, per race weekend

Where / When will it happen?

In Year One, the Championship calendar will stretch from August to November 2008, with races at the top circuits in England, Spain, Germany, France, Belgium and Italy – all classic venues with real history and character.

In Year Two onwards, we want to expand gradually to a maximum of 17 races in future years to take the championship closer to all the club fans that are contesting the championship in Europe, South America and Asia.

Why are we doing it?

While other motor sports are dominated by technology, the spirit behind Superleague Formula is about feeling the pride and the passion… and getting closer to the action.

We believe that football and motor racing can combine to deliver something spectacular – an exciting contest with unforgettable moments to treasure.
A sport that brings passionate people together and which lives by its sharing, open philosophy: inclusive, involving and accessible.
We want to see a beautiful race. That’s why we’re doing this… What do you think?

Even nagezocht:

"And no, this is not a late April fool spoof"
