Dat dontblogaboutthis-gedoe, waar op diverse sites en ook op DF al berichten over hebben gestaan, is een nieuwe sportauto. Dat is een auto die gebaseerd is op de Vision EfficientDynamics. Dan kan de Telegraaf nu wel uit de nieuwe AMS overtypen dat de Vision EfficientDynamics in productie gaat, maar dat ligt natuurlijk iets genuanceerder. Al was het maar omdat de kans vrij klein is dat BMW een auto met glazen deuren in productie gaat nemen.

En dan kan het inderdaad zo zijn dat het voor sommige mensen nieuws is, maar ja, er schijnen in sommige oerwouden ook nog strijders te leven die niet weten dat de Tweede Wereldoorlog voorbij is.

Die kon ik er vanmiddag niet bij zetten, want ik dacht dat Romo het eerder gepost had maar ik bleek het zelf te zijn. Duurde dus even voor ik het terug had gevonden.

Big News: German AMS reports (confirmed by BMW insider Scott26) that BMW's board of directors has decided to green-light the Vision Efficient Dynamics for production at the Leipzig plant. According to this report, the VED is scheduled to hit the market in 2013 using a regular combustion engine. The drivetrain concept shown at last year's unveiling of the VED (1.5l Diesel engine + two e-motors) is said to follow later. In other news, this report also mentions that the Leipzig plant is said to produce the new entry level BMW car.

Ik ook, het is een heerlijk sportief, compact, gedrongen ontwerp.....................daar heeft het na de E46 M3 behoorlijk aan geschort helaas..................

De 3 en 6 coupe zijn te lang, das wel erg elegant, maar nauwelijks agressief en sportief..................

Met een beetje goede wil zou je een 135i of 1 M ook sportief, compact en gedrongen kunnen noemen.

mee eens (Romo), trouwens op de tekening zie ik ook hoofdsteunen achter en dus zitplaatsen...
echter daar gezet moet dat wel uber laag zitten anders kop/dak problemen...of voor kids, dus 2 +2...
anders zou ie toch groter zijn dan de tekening doet vermoeden
de proporties op de tekening lijken in elk geval wel goed.

They have started a strategy to turn the Vision Connected Drive into a BMW M sports car. Planned for a debut after 2015 , The planned model is expected to be lightweight, powered by a specially massaged Six Cylinder powerplant with double-clutch transmission. And Active-M Tech (more on that in a months time)

The BMW Board saw the interpretation of the Coupe and were blown away.

i8 is one thing - The Vision Connected Drive is another.
Both are being investigated and evaluated for production.
One thing discussed is the Vision Connected Drive being given a "roof" for a future showing to test the water.

Given the 1er/3er matrix is adaptable for mid engine placement is a benefit to the R&D engineers.

The arrival date procedes that BMW will be able to bring and spread costs of carbon Fibre to a more cost effective level when it is in full mass production. But the plan is to bring a more enthusiast friendly approach to a BMW Sports Car. i8 is tomorrow's Vision but not everybody will get behind the wheel . This is for the masses.

It will be a true sports car but it will done the BMW way and no one else's.

BMW i8 to be Powered by Gasoline, not Diesel Afterall


In a big fundamental change for the upcoming BMW i8, the future BMW halo car will be powered by a gasoline engine instead of diesel. It was previously intended to be powered by a 161-horsepower 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbo DIESEL engine mated with a hybrid synchronous motor on the front axle (80HP) and full electric motor on the rear axle (51HP), to give a combined 292HP. The diesel motor will now be replaced by a traditional gasoline engine.

According to R&D chief Klaus Draeger (via Autocar), the i8 will instead be petrol (gasoline) powered in order appeal to the widest potential market. Says Draeger - the change is being made "as we want to sell it all over the world. Diesel is only really relevant to Europe”.

The i8 (along with the i3) were announced as the first models to be produced under the new BMW sub-brand "i" earlier this week. Both cars will be built at the Leipzig Plant. The i3 launches in 2013, the i8 shortly after.
