Porsche 911 RS Recreation (LHD) For Sale (1975)
999 kg wet weight (2,198 pounds).....3.5 litres.....330 HP.....7,500 RPM+......replacement cost well in excess of E150,000 and virtually brand new !!!
Why risk driving the real thing anywhere, when this totally modern recreation is better built, faster, lighter, safer and more exciting than something 35 years old and 4 times the price ?
An original, accident and rust free, 1975 coupe body shell was completely stripped apart and taken down to the primer, then professionally hand finished. Second to the engine build, starting with the best donor car you can find is often the key to a successful restoration or recreation, and many times it is overlooked, simply because it is the single most time consuming part of the entire operation to rectify, if poorly executed on day one. It can also later be found to be a financial black hole if the correct due diligence is not applied in the search and acquisition phase. This is a 1975 coupe body shell that was chosen for its structural integrity, and ownership history, in addition to its lighter weight, ease of stripping, and being equipped with the factory sunroof option.
Duplicating the theme of the original RS was the primary objective, along with using modern updates where applicable. No expense was spared in the restoration of the interior. From the lightweight Perlon carpets on the floor to the reproduction ST seats, dashboard, door panels, headliner, etc, everything is new. The electric sunroof operation was retained, however, there is no radio.
The powerplant was completely built from scratch featuring the best parts that money can buy. Lightweight 3.5 litre pistons and cylinders from MAHLE were fitted to a 3.2 case and turbo crank with custom Carrillo rods, Calico bearings and new seals, rings and gaskets thru out. PMO 50MM throttle body EFI feeds the ported cylinder heads with new valves, guides, locks, seals and Porsche Motorsport RSR "LeMans grind" camshafts obtained from Porsche Motorsport AG. Everything exits thru SSI stainless steel headers and heat exchangers attached to an MK stainless steel dual outlet sport muffler. The entire fuel and oil systems are competely new. Over 70 hours of painstakingly careful hand assembly, checking and re-measuring, as well as balancing to a zero gram tolerance, was what it took the 30 year Porsche factory trained Swiss-Canadian master technician who built this masterpiece of an engine.
The torque is delivered thru the period correct 915 transmission that has been disassembled, stripped, equipped and rebuilt with completely new internals, a WEVO shift mechanism and shifter as well as a QUAIFE torque sensing differential.
Keeping the increased power on the ground effectively, without compromising the period feel of the car, was paramount in this project. Enhancing safety, but without totally negating the objective, was accomplished thru the judicial use of modern tire, shock and braking technology while staying within the generational age of the design parameters. Genuine 16" FUCHS forged alloy wheels 8 x 9" wide were fitted with new Continental rubber. The fender lips were rolled for additional clearance. Later model larger and rebuilt Carrera brake calipers are attached to cross drilled rotors with all new brake lines and master cylinder. New 23 and 29mm hollow torsion bars, new sway bars, new BILSTEIN sport shocks, and new bushings/wheel bearings, etc, thru out the chassis, finish the suspension. All relevant parts were bead blasted and/or repainted as necessary, and everything is tied together with a welded roll cage. Afterwards the finished car was lowered and corner balanced.
Cost was no object in this project which took 8 months to complete, and was finished in the summer of 2008. What you have just read is a very small description of the work performed to make this vehicle what it is. Companies which produce recreations will charge you well in excess of 120,000 pounds to accomplish the same thing, and this car is far better than any of them for a fraction of that amount. You will receive a 100+ page binder which contains all of the receipts and documentation for the labor/dyno tuning and parts that were put into the vehicle, in addition to a USB flash drive with 100 photographs, and the ECU diagnostic software. The ododmeter was reset to zero as everything is new and it currently shows 6,900 KM.
This vehicle is located in Calgary, Canada. If you are truly serious and wish to fly here to inspect and drive it first hand, I will collect you at the airport. I can also arrange inexpensive downtown hotel accomodations for you until your return flight. Economy class return trip tickets from the UK to Calgary are non-stop flights on either BA or Air Canada, and cost approximately 750 pounds.
Fully insured door to door freight from Calgary to the port of Birmingham is an additional 2,000 pounds over and above the final negotiated purchase price, as are any VAT taxes (if applicable) and/or other fees. These are the responsibility of the purchaser, and must be paid by you. I can handle the shipping arrangements for the purchaser at their expense, and already have the necessary quotes and arrangements in place.
