DVLA single car approval.
Hi guys,
Does any of you have information or experience with having a car type approved by the DVLA in the UK?
I got a glitch in my project concerning this so all info is welcome.
PM's are ok too.
Thanks.

Have a look at the Mark Evans 'A car is born' series. Available at Discovery Channel in The Netherlands a few months ago, don't know if they've got plans to put it on television again.
But Mark Evans sells DVDs of the series also, as far as I know he's done at least 3 SVA tests with 3 of the cars he has built. The Land Rover, the Cobra replica, and an other one also.

I think you can forget your car as a kitkar...
me thinks the same as I've once got with my starting as a BMW Compact 316i it stays A bmw but renamed it as type and ofcorse in my case changed the basis papers from 4 in 6 cill and the kw figure and weight.
So your car would be named Subaru and the type you can fill in yourself 8) then when you have the right controller and you gave them the right arguments they name it the way you gave it, or something like that but you keep the chassis-number of the original.
good luck

Feck me! You'd think it would be easier to find than this but finally, here's an intro from the people responsible for managing the whole scheme (VOSA):
clicky
You can also order the manuals from this site as well (fun reading!)...

Re: DVLA single car approval.
we are specialised in the single approvals although for for kitcars especially.
Either in the UK (Now called IVA) and the Dutch Individual approval which has been possible since may 2009.
We have been involved in the kitcar business for 10 years now. We have the most general knowledge of kitcars for the Dutch market and also made a lot of SVA/IVA approvals together with our dutch collegues and customers before the SVA.IVA was possible in the Netherlands as well.
The Dutch IVA is similar to the UK IVA-test allthough the sound (exhaust, intake) test is more strict and measured dynamically instead of statically as in the UK. Also the dutch approval for individually built cars must comply with todays emission rules.
