Peugeot 2008 possible rod knock

Hi all,

I am writing this on behalf of my friend, he contacted me last night to say his Peugeot 2008 displayed the low oil pressure warning light on his way between Brussels and Maastricht and made a strange noise. I told him, it is likely the car has significant engine damage from lack of oil, but it has not been confirmed yet. The car would not start after the event and had to be recovered. He wanted to take it to Kwik Fit but I told him no, if Kwik Fit in the Netherlands is anything like Kwik Fit in the UK, they may not be qualified to diagnose this problem. Take it to a dealer or specialist.

I would like to clarify the procedure for scrapping a car in the Netherlands? It is quite easy to do this in the UK, you pay £50 and someone collects your car. Do you have something similar in NL? My friend is Japanese and new in the Netherlands, so he is probably less capable to deal with a problem like this than most people.

If you find a “demontage” company you will get 150 euro minimum for the car. Company will part it out and/or recycle the car.

Often they collect as well.

You can try https://www.ikwilvanmijnautoaf.nl/. They put it up for auction and the highest bid wins. It will then be collected by the company with the winning bid. And yes, you can use it for scrapping cars. Done this before, got €150 for an old VW Polo.

Or maybe try the local Peugeot dealer?

Scrapping doesn't sound necessary. The car will at least still be worth a few thousand. The above mentioned party is a great way to handle the sale if your friend is not looking to make the most out of it.

What kind of engine is in it?

And what's the mileage ?

Best way imo, is look at repair options before getting rid of it.

I'm guessing it's the puretech for some reason and most probable know what happend with it if that's the case.

If it’s an old model 2008 it also could be a prince engine (the 1.6 4cyl they developed with BMW), They're also very bad at reliability.
