Universal Lexicon makes "transparent manufacture" out of NOMOS
The heaviest product ever to issue from a Glashütte manufacture: a reading, reference, and research object for NOMOS and surroundings
Four hundred and twenty-two texts on 336 pages, pounds of photographs, graphics, paintings, maps, and tables illustrating the serious, the scientific, the technical and, of course, the surprising and cheerful. Overviews of all individual caliber parts and watchmaker testing questions alongside Glashütte history and stories, cooking recipes and art that gets collected at NOMOS. Road directions and facts about the state of the economy worth knowing, prominent people, church and society, luxury, inheritance, money, and luster. In this book one will find climate tables and explanations of clouds that sometimes pass over NOMOS, as well as modest information regarding Glashütte production secrets (which will no longer be so secret after this). Here, for example, are the birthdays and direct dialing numbers of all NOMOS employees, the preferences of the company's executives, the ownership structure, the number of secret couples, and the text messages being sent during working hours. In a nutshell: everything, really.
NOMOS's Universal Lexicon is the fattest, heaviest product that has ever been issued from a Glashütte manufacture. And an especially beautiful one, too. About twenty reputable authors, artists, and graphic artists worked on this object, and it's easy to see that they invested not only a lot of effort, but had a lot of fun along the way.
The Universal Lexicon is, however, more than just a conglomeration or a simple A to Z listing: It is a research aid and an amusingly good read before bed, a reliable reference book, topic supplier, decision base, it is NOMOS and Glashütte all at once - and in the richest meaning of the words a "transparent manufacture." For journalists and watch dealers a must. For others, too.
