Recommendation for welder/bodyshop (rust removal)
Hey guys,
I went for a rust inspection in preparation for a rust treatment the other day and my rear wheel arches was sadly in a worse condition than they would be able to handle. The arches has been widened (or possible corrected after a accident) and his recommendation was that the whole quarter panel had to be cut away, rust removed, a new piece fabricated and welded, however his estimate was that this was going to be really expensive. To me the rust doesn't look that deep, but I'm not a professional
Knowing this I'm looking to collect some quotes on what it would cost to have it fixed and thereby I'm interested in knowing about some body shops and/or welders that have experience of this kind of work and know what they're doing Preferable in Zuid-Holland but for the right place I'm willing to travel.
The car in question is a Skyline R33 GTST.
Thanks in advance

I will definitely look up the rustmonkey! Seems like the waiting list is running until November, but hey, the one who waits for something good, right?

Thanks guys, I write up a introduction thread instead. I dropped by the rust monkey today but he wasn't there, will try next week.

For what it’s worth... stay away from ‘The Rust Monkey’. Is an amateur. Zero quality. Just stay away.

Re: Recommendation for welder/bodyshop (rust removal)
My e46 M-Tech Touring had some serious welding work to do. Went to the Rust Monkey via an online recommendation. Missed the car for 4 weeks. Picked the car up: NOTHING was done. Literally. Bill was 350€. Now, it even gets better. On way home to Amsterdam, the battery light comes on: dynamo broken. Girlfriend used the car next day for her work, it did ‘t do anything anymore 70km from home. Called the Rust Monkey, maybe he noticed anything? Reply was: ‘oh crap... forgot to disconnect battery before the welding... I had this 8 times already, silly me...!’
Next APK checkup (I had seen it already): jackup point on the right backside needs fixing.
THIS WAS WHAT I SENT THE CAR IN FOR AT THE RUST MONKEY!
So, a recap:
- car was at the garage for maintenance and should have been picked up immediately after maintenance by The Rust Monkey to fix the welding... well that took 3 weeks
- 1 week later, still heard nothing: I called... ‘yeah, the wrong part numbers were delivered. Need more time’
- 1 week later get the message my car is ready
- go to pick up the car. Guy says nothing. Zit. Zero. Niente. Nada. Just points at the car. I see the right sideskirt is not mounted. He did not have time for it. So I need to mount it. Great, living in Amsterdam city centre, that should not be a hassle.
- Car on the inside is ONE BIG F****N mess, filthy, no more gas in the tank. Great.
- Before I’m at the gas station, battery light comes on.
Then, a discussion back and forth starts. Admitting he forgot to disconnect a few things, making my dynamo now useless and got the battery drained, but still asking for payment of his 350€ bill.
Later, when I had a look at the car and saw really (and I mean really!) nothing that I had sent it in for was done, I asked him about this gently.
His reply: ‘You’re just like the others, trying to destroy me!’
Wait what? What others?
Did not pay for anything as his ‘work’ doesn’t give result other than headache.
