Legal mods in NL

Bericht door Emadove » 15 okt 2021, 15:25

Hey everyone!
I was wondering if anyone has installed a catless downpipe in the Netherlands or at least a high flow downpipe?
I think from what I understood so far that catless is illegal and won't pass the emissions test but how about the high flow downpipe (200 cells instead of 400 cells?

Welcome.

Most that drive a catless system have too yearly swap it for MOT.
Replacing your stock (probably 300 or 400 cells cat) for a sporty 200 cells one should normally still let you pass mot yet you can drive around with it.

We are also at a point where noise measurement is officially an MOT point, but only if the MOT station has a DB measuring device.
Some MOT stations specifically do not have one to facilitate the more sporty driver, so when it comes to MOT you may want to ask them in advance what they do.

Police is also cracking down on noisy owners, so if revving it in the high street is your hobby it could be costly.

That's cool I'm more looking to the performance aspect, I am going to do a muffler delete soon or install a new exhaust, then I'll see from there how it goes. Luckily revving in the street isn't one of my hobbies and I've never got in any problems with police yet.

Also depends on the age of your vehicle. I believe from 2006 onwards, if it doesn't give an emission warning light (or emission fault codes in ECU) you can get through MOT with catless downpipes, as they don't measure CO2 then.

It's a 2018 BMW F30 but that's fine I guess because when I get the high flow DP I will flash it with a tune and remove the engine check light that comes up

But the cats "visually" need to be there if I'm not mistaken.
So you can empty them, but better not replace them by just a pipe.

Keep in mind that a good quality steel celled cat can get you practically the same healthy flow as a catless system without the extra noise and soot it creates.
Catless for just performance is neglectable.

^ wot he said..

Steve Dinan said a well designed system with cat cost 1,2% performance over non cat.

JM tuning, nice, in my backyard :)

I just had two high flow DP's fitted to my M2 comp, for obvious reasons.
APK + sound (as empty ones are like trumpets).
Getting too old for APK bullshit LOL
