Entry Sports Car Starts Under $200k, Rivals Porsche 911 Turbo

McLaren has released initial details of its upcoming entry-level sports car, codenamed P13. The vehicle is being seen as a direct competitor for the Porsche 911 Turbo. The McLaren P13, as it is known for now, will be unveiled at next year's Geneva Motor Show and is expected to go on sale shortly after its unveiling as a 2015 model.
The McLaren P13 will reportedly utilize the carbon fiber monocoque from the McLaren 12C and a version of McLaren's 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8, making between 450 and 500 hp. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission will distribute power to the rear wheels, enabling a 0-60 time of less than four seconds and a top speed of at least 185 mph.
Mclaren chief executive Mike Flewitt told autocar, that the P13 will be smaller and lighter than the MP4-12C. The McLaren P13, which is characterized by the British marque as a "pure driver's car," will sit below the McLaren 12C and well below the mighty McLaren P1 as the make's entry level car. Styling for the P13 will be influenced by the P1 hypercar and pricing for the P13 to start around $200,000, autocar reports.
McLaren is also beginning development of the P15 model that will slot between the 12C and P1 hybrid supercar. McLaren says its annual production target is between 2,000 and 2,500 units to start.
